There is no such thing as "shoot to wound". I can't believe how many idiots still think that. If you must use lethal force, then you shoot for center mass 100% of the time. Otherwise cops will get killed.

Sort of a tough one. If the crazy bastard got past, he could have stabbed an officer and possibly killed the guy in the blue shirt. In that case you can say a kill shot (or seventy in this case) was needed to prevent a horrible incident. But what I don't get is if he refused to put the knife down, why not wound him in the leg and get the knife away? Tough one as I said, and the world is probably better off without another piece of psycho-shit on the street.

Police are trained to shoot to kill, or not to shoot at all. Shooting someone in the leg or the shoulder etc. isn't a realistic option. A bullet in the leg isn't guaranteed to stop someone who's pumped up on adrenaline (and alcohol/drugs?). And a second later they're on top of you, stabbing you or slashing at your throat. Why risk it?

To all those out there that say they should shoot him in the leg, what happens when that shot misses and he stabs that officer? Or it hits him but doesn't stop him? If an officer has use his gun the only sure way is to aim to kill. Period. At that point any missed shots, or delayed reaction can cost lives. Don't want to get shot? Don't give them a reason like running at them with a knife.
